Category Archives: Shelter Dogs and Pups in need

I know, I know I have been MIA for some time now…

Well gang this has been a crazy year, I have completed my dog training coarse, and I am now certified. I am finishing odd another coarse now so that’s why I haven’t been as devoted here.

Last week I got word that a fellow rescuer friend of mine has fallen on hard times, she did a wonderful YouTube video a few years back that I would love to re share now:

Pit bulls – you can be a voice for the voiceless

I am sending out an urgent call to arms on Kym’s behalf, she lost her job a while back and has now lost her home, the home she shares with her two rescued pit bulls Max and Sam, who have a Facebook page Max and Sam we are emma shay’s legacy (https://www.facebook.com/weareemmashayslegacy?fref=ts)  if you want to show them some love.

Kym has worked tirelessly over the years for pit bulls, fighting BSL, and working in rescue, she has given of herself so freely and with an open heart, I have set up a fund-raiser for her in hopes she can secure a new home and to  get set up. Any left over money will go to rescue, shelter aid and care, because that’s Kym, she’s always thinking about ways to pay it forward!  Watching her go through this has been very hard, seeing bad things happen to good people really angers me!

The fund-raiser can be found here:

Helping a rescuer keep her pit bull family together

My sincere wish is to help a wonderful lady, a bank account specifically for her fund-raiser will be opened on Monday and I will update that for those who wish to verify where their donations are going.

Please any fellow rescuers, pit bull owners, advocates, please share the links so we can get help for Kym and her crew as we can, and please if you can donate!

Thank you everyone for hanging in there while I completed my training, thanks for sharing my posts and for standing up for pit bulls and abused and neglected dogs everywhere!

I’m back, where I’ve been and what’s up next

28748_166911366782736_147438333_nHi gang!

I have not been posting in a while, mostly because of my dog training course.

I am in the last phase of the program and I have been very busy getting ready for my final, I am looking for some rescues to help me out with an essay I am writing so I am hoping that I get some responses.

I need three shelters or rescues willing to be interviewed by phone I need to know the percentages of dogs relinquished, the reasons why they were relinquished, the percentages  of dogs adopted and percentages of dogs euthanized, and why.

rehabilitation training to prevent dogs from losing potential homes, and training to make homeless dogs more adoptable

Also the numbers and reasons why dogs are returned after adoption.

My goal as a trainer is to keep dogs out of the shelters and to stop euthanizations due to a lack of training, and also to help people to understand how important proper training is and why it should be part of every responsible owners priority and gift to their pets success as a member of our society.

If anyone knows of shelters and rescues interested in helping me out with this please send me an email at apitomesblog@shaw.ca and please include the shelter or rescue name and address, contact persons name, title and phone number.

Remember folks keeping animals safe and out of the shelter systems is or should be a primary goal.

Thank you to everyone that visits my blog, comments, and shares their own experiences, without you all this would all be for nothing! It’s you that have helped me help them, so again thank you very much! I appreciate it deeply!

After graduation I look forward to sharing many things with you all, and getting back to what I love, helping dogs in need and tending to my blog! I am hoping to include some free basic training videos for you all to share and enjoy.

Great Caesar’s ghost, there’s another to add to this weeks rescues, and he’s a real sweet guy!

Meet Caesar:

CAESAR [A1338128] is an unaltered male, blue and white Pit Bull Terrier. He is about 2 years and 1 month old. Weighs about 43 lbs. Has been at the shelter since Aug 25, 2012.
Caesar is the submissive one. He is very scared, but the SWEETEST boy ever! One look at those eyes and your heart will melt! Something about Caesar expression breaks my heart. Never felt a kind hand or affection. Yet, still…

wags his tail and gives kisses. He is starting to love the belly rubs and the attention but will need a lot more socialization. He needs someone who will love him and show him that there are nice people. I’m sure with a lot of love he will be the greatest companion! Please help save sweet Caesar! For any questions or concerns contact the South Los Angeles Shelter at (213)485-0117/0119. *Los Angeles, CA and dont forget to mention his intake number at the top of the post.
With a face like that, who could stand to see him stay behind bars! I think this one’s a keeper! please share this guy today, and if you think you have what it takes to be a great pet parent to Caesar, and you live in the Los Angeles area, please stop in and see this boy!

Sorry, I have been away because…. I broke my jaw! so here is last weeks rescues of the week:

True story! not very exciting you see, but true none the less! I have a long history of being the girl who trips over such things as dust bunnies, porch dirt, shoes, ah yes those beastly shoes! they are my Nemesis!!! I recently tripped in high heels, falling face first onto cement and broke my jaw! Snapped that puppy like a red neck snaps a chicken bone!

So I have been a little out of it for the last 6 or so weeks. Mostly feeling quite sorry for myself  while in a Tylenol 3 induced stupor LOL!

But I did manage to finish my stage 9 exam with Animal Behavior College, and passed with 92% so I am very excited about that! I am back and ready to take on the dog training world, and animal advocacy as well!

Now, here are last weeks rescues of the week, these three babies have a chip in under Hearts Of Love Rescue, my friend Michelle Binnette is trying to get much-needed funds for transport to Canada, and vetting, they had boarding fees attached so please feel free to share these wonderful pups each one is desperate to find their very own fur-always home!

Michelle had this post on her Facebook page :URGENT ******DESPERATELY NEEDING YOUR HELP
Things are not looking good, we have only raised $65 more dollars out of the $435 needed. we need all the funds by Wednesday of this week or these 3 little ones will not get to go on transport   T…hese babies need your help in raising the funds needed. Transport is this thursday and if we don’t have all the funds raised in time they will not be going on the transport and that is they last thing we want to happen. Here is the chipin link explaining what is needed. Your help is greatly appreciated, no amount is to small. if we don’t get this money raised ASAP these 3 little ones will NOT be on the transport to their new start in life and that is the last thing we want to happen. their has been problems with the chipin link so our rescue paypal is heartsofloverescue@gmail.com. http://heartsofloverescue.chipin.com/3-harbor-shelter-dogs-hc-boarding-and-transportSee more
These 3 babies I pulled from Harbor Shelter Today, We really need your help in raising the funds needed for these 3. Boarding is $240 for all 3, Health Certificates $75 for all 3, Transport $120 for all 3 So we need $435 in total to get the…se babies to their new start in life. I know we can do. Please share and help us make this happen. these babies will be eternally grateful. Rescues paypal is heartsofloverescue@gmail.com All help is greatly appreciated Thank you!
I can say that Michelle is a wonderful woman trying very hard to save as many lives as she can, but saving lives sadly comes with a price, please help Michelle get the funds needed to help these great pups!

My friend “PitBill Ziegler” runs a pit bull rescue,  called PIT CREW RESCUE, he is a trusted rescue and friend and an all around hero to these dogs!  Abused, neglected, pregnant, he takes in as many as he can, and gets them the “Fur-always” homes that they deserve! “Tread” was the Pit Bull we got the call on that was covered in ticks, beaten & chained to a tire after crossing multiple busy highways! Sorry its late but this weeks dog in need is Chopper! please share him as URGENT he is running out of time!!!

Is this not one of the best looking boys you have ever seen? here is a little about chopper it comes from a wonderful lady named Stacy Shofner: This is chopper, choppers story is this; his owners are moving to a state that has BSL laws and cannot take him. We just found out and they are leaving on the 18th. Chopper is very urgent for a foster or home or he will end up back at the shelter were he came from about 5 years ago he is a gentle giant he is fixed and has had some shots please share him far and wide we only have days!!!!!!! any one interested can contact me at 661-889-2407 thanks guys he’s got only 8 days left and hell be heading to the shelter!!!

So let’s do everything the internet will allow and get moving on this boy please, please,  share him with trusted friends and rescues this boy deserves a home, not to end up euthanized at a shelter, just another sad pit statistic.

Chopper is located in Kern county Los Angeles. I believe but stacy will narrow it down for those interested.

Thanks you very much!
