I’m back, where I’ve been and what’s up next

28748_166911366782736_147438333_nHi gang!

I have not been posting in a while, mostly because of my dog training course.

I am in the last phase of the program and I have been very busy getting ready for my final, I am looking for some rescues to help me out with an essay I am writing so I am hoping that I get some responses.

I need three shelters or rescues willing to be interviewed by phone I need to know the percentages of dogs relinquished, the reasons why they were relinquished, the percentages  of dogs adopted and percentages of dogs euthanized, and why.

rehabilitation training to prevent dogs from losing potential homes, and training to make homeless dogs more adoptable

Also the numbers and reasons why dogs are returned after adoption.

My goal as a trainer is to keep dogs out of the shelters and to stop euthanizations due to a lack of training, and also to help people to understand how important proper training is and why it should be part of every responsible owners priority and gift to their pets success as a member of our society.

If anyone knows of shelters and rescues interested in helping me out with this please send me an email at apitomesblog@shaw.ca and please include the shelter or rescue name and address, contact persons name, title and phone number.

Remember folks keeping animals safe and out of the shelter systems is or should be a primary goal.

Thank you to everyone that visits my blog, comments, and shares their own experiences, without you all this would all be for nothing! It’s you that have helped me help them, so again thank you very much! I appreciate it deeply!

After graduation I look forward to sharing many things with you all, and getting back to what I love, helping dogs in need and tending to my blog! I am hoping to include some free basic training videos for you all to share and enjoy.

It’s Halloween and the photo’s are in so here’s Apitome’s Halloween Photo Contest winners for 2012…

Here are all the photo’s I received:

#1) Sleepy Baby

#2) Captain Olivia:

#3) The Headless ghosts of the 1700’s:

#4) Baylee and Fiona the sister witches:

#5) Angus and his Ghouls:

I must say that everyone did a great job on these costumes, I tried very hard to pick just one, but couldn’t, even my daughter couldn’t help me get it to just one, so we came up with a solution. We based our decision on who put in the most effort, and we decided that there will be two winners.

And the winners are: “Captain Olivia”, and “The ghosts from the 1700’s” Congrats to both winners! and to all the contestants thank you so much I can’t tell you how hard it was and how great we thought everyone’s pictures were! The winners will also be notified via email.

Sorry to Sleepy Baby’s mom I couldn’t get mt editor to rotate the photo of your pup.

I will be putting together the gift boxes to be mailed out to the winners again, congrats everyone and each dog was a winner to us! Here at apitome’s blog we don’t discriminate based on breed!

Thanks again and have a safe and happy Howl-o-ween!!!!!

I am proud to announce this week is the very first “Pit Bull of the week” and this weeks star is…

Huckleberry and his beautiful sister Holiday! Below we see Huckleberry and his dad I believe, pretty cute baby picture right?

 What a face!

I included this one of Huckleberry and his sister Holiday because just like him, she is so darn cute and family always has to stick together! Huckleberry and Holidays mom tells me that she was very quickly won over by the pit bull personality, I can relate! She also says that Holiday was a rescue from a storage yard, well… you know what they say, one mans junk is another’s treasure! Thanks so much to Tom and Esther for sharing their beautiful babies with us all!

It takes all of us sticking together, working together, and networking as one united group to create change, and with owners like you both out there, we get one step closer every day!

As stated in my pics post, every week on friday I would like to feature a very special pit bull (and family) if the pictures include their human sidekicks.

Please share with your friends, and please above all else, keep the pictures coming! Keep in mind here at Apitome’s blog we don’t discriminate based on breed, but obviously we are trying to spotlight dogs labeled under the “dangerous dogs” banner, so we are trying to focus on Pit bulls, pit mixes, etc.,  But by all means don’t hold back we are always willing to show pictures of your dogs too!

Let’s show the world how great our dogs are! Lets change some hearts and minds, and lets kick down some barriers and walls!

Our dogs would do anything for us, so it’s the least we can do for them.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Bark out time for my Baylee she’s on Youtube!!!!

I must first explain the channel name, My Damn Dog…, Well my daughter and I were jokingly fighting over Baylee her first night with us, Noa said “Is she my dog?” and I said “No she’s my dog.” joking obviously. Well we got on a real role over who was going to own the worlds greatest pit bull! Translation: (It’s my damn dog! No, it’s my damn dog!) We love Baylee with all our hearts so no hate mail please 🙂 I joke a lot with my kids, I teach them that there’s many things about life you have to laugh at… including yourself!

We want to see This YouTube channel succeed, to bring the public around, to show them that pit bull’s really are just like any other dog, they are capable of all the same things, success and failure! It’s the guardian/parent that shapes the dog just as they would a child!

Thank you so much everyone your support since day one is very humbling to me, my family, and yes, even Baylee. You have helped me with every post, in changing the way the rest of the world looks at Pit Bulls, bully breeds, and even the breeds who just look like pit bulls, so on behalf of Baylee I will simply say, once again, Thank You Very Much! She went from a little starved dog slated to be euthanized, a dog that looked so beat down and pathetic, even I wasn’t really ready for some of the behaviours I saw in her, so scared, so timid and untrusting of what may come next, to a dog that will not be brought down! She’s a star! She has come a long way, and still has a way to go, but she is changing everyday, becoming what I affectionately call “My Little Barnacle” Here are some pictures of Baylee the first ones are how she looked when we got her, the others are as she is today.

Love that dog!

Here are her first two YouTube videos please enjoy, like, share, comment, subscribe to the :MyDamnDog channel!

Send us video ideas, things you’d like to see. Eventually we will be doing reviews on dog food and dog related products.

We want the world to see how funny life with a pit bull can be, most of all we want to share our funny videos of the little pit bull that could with all of you!

My Damn Dog gets serenaded to sleep

My Damn Dog hates air (short)

Thanks everyone, and have a great day!

Attention all dog shelter volunteers and rescues…

For anyone out there wishing to network and post their dogs here please feel free to email me at apitomesblog@shaw.ca (USA and Canada only please)

Please include city, state or province, a contact number, contact name when possible, and a photo if available of the dog. The goal here is to get these dogs out of the shelter system, and into loving homes.

I would just like to state that I do not work for or with any organization, I just want save some dogs from death, or life in a kennel. Any breed of dog is fine with me here at Apitome we “DO NOT” discriminate, based on breed!

All posts are shared on twitter, stumble upon, Digg, Facebook, Google+, and others, so lets work together today!

So please share with your rescue and shelter volunteer friends, and remember networking is what saves lives!

Thank you!
