About

Hello there, and welcome to  A-PI-TO-ME (A PIT TO ME) This blog is dedicated to changing perceptions about the most mistreated and misunderstood dog on the planet the American Pit Bull Terrier.  It is also here to support anyone trying to abolish BSL. However all dog lovers are welcome here I do not discriminate against any breeds I love them all!

BSL needs to be put where it belongs in the trash! If you work with a rescue group and would like to post to my blog by all means please send an email to holly.c@shaw.ca and I will be glad to help! I also have a YouTube channel.  I am not a certified trainer (Yet) I will however do my level best to get the most truthful, correct, and up to date info to you. Should anyone have any questions, I will consult with vets and certified trainers to get you the answers you need.

Animal abuse is an issue that I take very seriously! If you abuse animals, the elderly, or children you are filth in my book! I work tirelessly to educate on and end animal abuse and neglect, if you can’t commit to the lifetime of your pet don’t get one! Pets are not here for us to poses, or for our entertainment, they feel, they love, they hurt! Be kind or you’re on my radar!

The opinions I express are just that “Opinions” they are based on my experiences with dogs in general, and or my point of view only. I have owned dogs for thirty plus years, I have trained most of them myself, and I have never met an un-trainable dog. I look at a dogs potential, not their limitations, the only limitations they have are the ones we place on them!

Any answers given to questions must be taken in the understanding that I accept no responsibility or liability as I am not an “expert”. With that said I will do everything in my power to assure you get the best info out there. All comments are welcome but keep in mind that if you are here to start a fight, to link your spam) or be nasty, you need to go somewhere else! (any comments I feel are spam will be deleted)

Thanks very much and enjoy!

So glad I found your blog! I live on the Western slope of Colorado. (we don’t have a breed ban)I have gone to Denver for the breed ban protest at city hall in 2009,and many of us residing on the Western slope tried very hard to get the word out about Hickenlooper before he won the election for Governor.I cannot take my female pittie “Sofia” to Denver, because I would risk her being confiscated. No dollars for Denver. We all have to get the word out, and do everything we can to educate people about pitbulls, and change the tide.I think your writing style is fresh, honest and to the point.I will enjoy reading and contributing to your blog!

Thank you Margaret! It’s nice to hear from people that understand full well the scope of what is going on! I have wondered about dogs Visiting Denver and what that would mean for their safety. You are welcome to comment anytime! I am compiling stories, video, pictures, anything Pit positive that can show their true nature, if you have anything you would like to add please feel free to send any submissions to: hollytate34@hotmail.com I want to put all of these entries into a documentary so videos are especially helpful, if you choose to add anything please include your phne number once I am ready to film I would love to select some owners to interview, so feel free to spread the word!
      Thanks again!

Hi Kori, and thanks, I sure hope that in the future, denver will come to it’s sense and realize that breed bans simply don’t work, and aim the scope in the wrong direction. Many states and provinces with the USA and Canada are realizing that placing the focus on the “owner” is much more effective. I hope one day you CAN take Sofia to Denver safely and without bias! Keep speaking out and demanding change!

Unfortunately you are wrong about most pit bull owners not blaming the victim. Every time I read a story about pit bull attack there are tons of owners trying to blame the victim for the attack.

Well that one is a slippery slope for sure, becuase in some cases people do put themselves in harms way, and by that I mean bending down and putting their faces upto a dogs face, that to a dog is a sign of aggression, but most people don’t know that. In some cases I have read one in particular this man set out to aggrivate a pit bull by teasing it. He was bitten. And in other cases the attack is a direct result of poor ownership, but I certainly to not condone anyone trying to blame a child for an attack kids are kids and it is not their fault if they are left unattended with a dog. Please try to keep in mind that the media loves a good pit bull story, it sells! They have in many cases manufactured the evidence, I found 64 cases of reported attacks labelled as pit bull, that we in fact not pit bull, or bully breeds or even mixes of, so It really is never black and white but rather grey. Until responsible ownership bylaws replace BSL nothing much will change, politicians want us to believe that BSL stops attacks that is a bold manipulation of fact, is simply does not. But thank you Mark for your comment and in some cases I would have to agree, I feel anyone trying to place blame when attack happens is in the wrong since the fault if you will, ultimately lies with the owner right from the start.

All I can say to that is that there are good people, and bad, good dogs and bad but when a golden retriever attacks a pit bull who will get the blame? it will always be the pit bulls fault, as for blaming the victim, in any story we must read through them with a grain of salt, if for instance someone is teasing or insighting a dog, I would say that is there fault. if a child is bitten, they may not have been taught how to treat an animal but you cannot blame a child, they cannot defend themselves, and they do not mean to be cruel but sometimes can be. I get angry when I see a pittie owner try to blame a child because you left your dog unattended period! My dog is NEVER left alone with a child, but none of my dogs are and one of them is not pit bull. I do not leave them alone outside ever! I set my dogs up to suceed not fail, but blaming an innocent person is never right, so I agree with that 100% and any “owner” choosing to blame an innocent victim is not a responsible owner period! Thank you for your comments they are always welcome here!
