I’m back, where I’ve been and what’s up next

28748_166911366782736_147438333_nHi gang!

I have not been posting in a while, mostly because of my dog training course.

I am in the last phase of the program and I have been very busy getting ready for my final, I am looking for some rescues to help me out with an essay I am writing so I am hoping that I get some responses.

I need three shelters or rescues willing to be interviewed by phone I need to know the percentages of dogs relinquished, the reasons why they were relinquished, the percentages  of dogs adopted and percentages of dogs euthanized, and why.

rehabilitation training to prevent dogs from losing potential homes, and training to make homeless dogs more adoptable

Also the numbers and reasons why dogs are returned after adoption.

My goal as a trainer is to keep dogs out of the shelters and to stop euthanizations due to a lack of training, and also to help people to understand how important proper training is and why it should be part of every responsible owners priority and gift to their pets success as a member of our society.

If anyone knows of shelters and rescues interested in helping me out with this please send me an email at apitomesblog@shaw.ca and please include the shelter or rescue name and address, contact persons name, title and phone number.

Remember folks keeping animals safe and out of the shelter systems is or should be a primary goal.

Thank you to everyone that visits my blog, comments, and shares their own experiences, without you all this would all be for nothing! It’s you that have helped me help them, so again thank you very much! I appreciate it deeply!

After graduation I look forward to sharing many things with you all, and getting back to what I love, helping dogs in need and tending to my blog! I am hoping to include some free basic training videos for you all to share and enjoy.

Attention all dog shelter volunteers and rescues…

For anyone out there wishing to network and post their dogs here please feel free to email me at apitomesblog@shaw.ca (USA and Canada only please)

Please include city, state or province, a contact number, contact name when possible, and a photo if available of the dog. The goal here is to get these dogs out of the shelter system, and into loving homes.

I would just like to state that I do not work for or with any organization, I just want save some dogs from death, or life in a kennel. Any breed of dog is fine with me here at Apitome we “DO NOT” discriminate, based on breed!

All posts are shared on twitter, stumble upon, Digg, Facebook, Google+, and others, so lets work together today!

So please share with your rescue and shelter volunteer friends, and remember networking is what saves lives!

Thank you!

Buying your child a bunny for Easter?

As Easter approaches I just thought I would say a few words about buying your child a bunny for Easter. Please consider that as with all pets, they require a lifetime commitment.

It’s easy to get caught up in how cute bunnies are and what a great gift it would be, but let me offer this, once the novelty has worn off who will take care of that bunny? Most often a few weeks after Easter bunnies are surrendered to animal control or shelters, pet stores make you think it is such a great idea, but in reality…, not so much!

Instead a chocolate bunny is great alternative, they can fawn over how cute they are, and then they get to enjoy the sweet taste of chocolate, who wouldn’t love that!

If you want a bunny for your child at any other time of the year, just make sure you and your child are ready for the responsibility that comes with owing a pet. shelters are a great place to look if you have decided that a bunny is the right pet for you.

Have a great Easter everyone!
