I am proud to announce this week is the very first “Pit Bull of the week” and this weeks star is…

Huckleberry and his beautiful sister Holiday! Below we see Huckleberry and his dad I believe, pretty cute baby picture right?

 What a face!

I included this one of Huckleberry and his sister Holiday because just like him, she is so darn cute and family always has to stick together! Huckleberry and Holidays mom tells me that she was very quickly won over by the pit bull personality, I can relate! She also says that Holiday was a rescue from a storage yard, well… you know what they say, one mans junk is another’s treasure! Thanks so much to Tom and Esther for sharing their beautiful babies with us all!

It takes all of us sticking together, working together, and networking as one united group to create change, and with owners like you both out there, we get one step closer every day!

As stated in my pics post, every week on friday I would like to feature a very special pit bull (and family) if the pictures include their human sidekicks.

Please share with your friends, and please above all else, keep the pictures coming! Keep in mind here at Apitome’s blog we don’t discriminate based on breed, but obviously we are trying to spotlight dogs labeled under the “dangerous dogs” banner, so we are trying to focus on Pit bulls, pit mixes, etc.,  But by all means don’t hold back we are always willing to show pictures of your dogs too!

Let’s show the world how great our dogs are! Lets change some hearts and minds, and lets kick down some barriers and walls!

Our dogs would do anything for us, so it’s the least we can do for them.

Have a great weekend everyone!

The haters are going to be livid over this one!

Special thanks to Joshua-Paul Angell and the Examiner for this one! great job guys!

How can anyone support BSL when there is NO proof pit bull are such a threat, but there is however  proof of how adaptable, trainable, willing to please and comfort these dogs are. There is proof that they love children, despite what the media and these “Ahem” organizations will have you believe. So to them I will just say…

Go team pit bull! oh and to the haters like PETA and Dogsbite….., BITE ME!

“Pig bulls” and the story behind the mis-spelling

Ok so a friend of mine and I were talking about, the negative responses people will automatically give you when you have a pit bull. Now I must say that this particular friend has abassa-dogs to put it into perspective, they are very well-behaved and friendly. He was out running some errands, he pulled into his destination and a mother and her little girl were getting into their car, just then the little girl yells “Those are pit bulls!” and jumps into her mom’s car and locks the door! WOW!  The mother just smiles and shrugs as if to say “Heh heh heh, sorry” well where did this little girl get this from?

She certainly did not come up with this on her own, kids are naturally drawn to animals, they don’t see breed, they don’t see stereotypes and even with people they don’t see color or race, they just see what’s there, a person, a dog, whatever, no opinions attached, no bias, just whats real.

My friend was understandably upset by this encounter, I guess mainly because he knew where she got that from, obviously someone has taught her that pit bulls are bad, evil, or that they attack. Whatever it is they put into that little girls head, stayed there and created fear. Now I know exactly what the haters of the world would say, and I don’t care their opinions are based on fear and bias as well, so they are meaningless and have no value to me.

This is what I told him;

It never ceases to amaze me what garbage people will project on to their kids, the fear, the hatred the bigotry they create with just a few simple words, and those things they say stick with their children. Case and point, I went to my local Wal-Mart three months or so ago, and I actually heard a child refer to another shopper using the “N” word, I hate that word! So I politely corrected him and said actually he’s African-American.

On the flip side of that, kids that have never been subjected to bias’ are great! Example my buddy’s pit bull  (a different one but also an abassa-dog) was over visiting, this was a couple of years ago now, we went to the park and the tiniest and cutest little girl I had ever seen, came over and said very matter of factly “Is that a pig bull?” “My daddy says they’re funny!” How great is that?!

So folks, think about the things you say, kids pick up cues on what they think we believe, based on the things we say, and teaching any child  that bigotry, bias, and profiling are ok, is child abuse as far as I am concerned. Let them see the world as open possibilities not bricked up walls that will keep them closed in, and closed off from the world, instead of part of it!

I am not suggesting that you shouldn’t teach them caution, how to ask to greet an animal, and proper greeting techniques, all I am saying is let them be open to new people, animals, places, and things, give them the freedom to be the little sponges we all know they are, they absorb everything! They can be very enlightening.

I think kids could teach us more than we will ever teach them. My daughter sees only friends at school she doesn’t see black, white, chinese, or turkish, just friends…, and when she sees a dog she doesn’t see breed she loves and respects them all unconditionally.

Thanks for taking the time to read my story about “pig bulls”and if you’re lucky you may just meet your happy pig bull kid too some day!

Possibly the most ignorant and bias teacher in America! Forces his students to write a paper “People should not own pit bulls”

This was written by a woman named Amber Kay;

Hello Fellow Pit Bull Lovers!

I am writing to you to gain support for my 16 year old son who is being forced by his High School English teacher to write a paper entitled, “People Should NOT own Pit Bulls”.

After my husband died, my family dived headlong into dog rescue, and it was very helpful in the healing process for us. We worked with Bully Paws and often times took in pregnant, abused pits and nursed them and their pups into health and aided in the effort to find them loving Forever Homes. As a pit bull rescuer, and owner of several pit bulls, my family is adamantly opposed to writing about this topic as are many kids in the class. And they are not given a choice to write about the opposing views. My son and I have asked several times to write on the opposing viewpoint.

Here is what the teacher says; “Yes, this is the paper asking students to use the topic “People Should Not Own Pit Bulls.”  When we began this project, several students mentioned that they owned pit bulls.

I said  that they didn’t have to BELIEVE people should not own pit bulls, but for the sake of this four paragraph research experience, I wanted them to use the four articles/sources I had provided to discuss two reasons why owning pit bulls could be dangerous.”

A whole generation of children are getting their heads filled with harmful, biased “facts” on our beloved breed. Several of us have contacted the school. I just got off the phone with the Assistant Principle, Mr Cassaday, and he said, and I quote, “It is an approved topic and there is nothing wrong with it”. Wow!

Won’t you please help and call the school and voice your opinion??

703.365.6500 – ask for Mr Cassaday’s office.

Thank You!

Now call me crazy but…., WHAT THE HELL? It is an approved topic? Why owning pit bulls could be dangerous? Are you kidding me? And it sounds to me like the assistant principal needs to have his head examined as well!

Here’s what I think, I think the kids should all write a paper on why they are leaving public school in favour of home schooling until such times as the school board can fill their institutions with people who can teach our children, understanding, the importance of, education over ignorance, that racial and breed profiling is wrong, and the definition of bias! This will only serve in farthing the already existing bias’ that these dogs face.

Of all the topics he could have picked to challenge these students, to make them really think about the world around them, this is what he chose?

Dear Lord! We are in serious trouble folks if a teacher can project and place their own bais’, fears and misguided view points on our children!

here is a link from BSL news with all the contact info, please support these kids, don’t let them be forced into writing this diatribe!
