There is seriously something wrong with our society when we choose lobbyists and greed over animals lives and rights! When did it become ok to choose which species lives and dies, and when or how to regulate them? Especially when we let our own population numbers get so totally out of control. priorities need to change here folks!
I just want to say that I have been a HUGE supporter of Best Friends Animal Society, I love what they do, and they have done a lot, some of the Vick dogs would be dead today if not for best friends, so they had me at hello on that one, but I find this article very disturbing. In fact I agree they are positioning themselves for something, much like the HSUS did several times over including using Michael Vick for much-needed press, and visa versa, I feel that choosing not to support a bill that is meant to protect and save the lives of animals, well I’m just going to say it.., they DISGUST me! and threatening to pull their support from Pets Alive if they spoke out, that dictatorship and abusive. To find out what I am talking about please see the link below:
Kerry and Matt you have my full support, and I’m sorry as one of the “Little Guys” as well, I know how you feel being dependant on others for help, if there was ever a Cause or Group to champion, its them!
I have found that it is always best to do your homework on any organization you plan to donate to. Check out their standing into and with All their affiliates and their policies first, you never know where the money will go! I have also said before, and this is in the posts of many advocacy and animal blogs and welfare websites, that the VP”S in the ASPCA and SPCA, rake in a whopping $200,000.00 to $500,000.00 a year as a salary. Not cool!
I’m all for people getting paid, but getting rich off those donations and government funding, or using the funds to lobby or grease palms, is soooo not cool! modest salaries, an uncorruptable moral is what is needed! I know, I’m a dreamer but come on! it is possible.
I just feel sick that we cannot progress in animal protection and rights, stand behind legislation that ensures these animals will be protected.
I think its time we all evaluate how we give money and wash our hands of it after we have, it certainly puts into perspective for me that maybe smaller shelters and advocacy and rescue groups are the way to go, because it seems to me that being the animals “SAVIOURS” is big business, and we need to find out whats behind it!
