Interest and Commitment; This made me think, do you know these types? Which one are you?

I saw Ken Blanchard’s quote on a Facebook page yesterday and it made me think;

There are some I like to call Angels, who will intrench themselves so deeply in a cause that they work tirelessly day and night to get things done, or to make things better for those who really need the help. These types will give of themselves, of their time, and sacrifice for the cause or creature or person, they never ask for anything in return, and probably wouldn’t take anything if you offered it. They are a gift to this planet and to the lives they touch. In the end they have done miracles and moved mountains! So to speak.

These types will not just give once, but rather often and in varoius ways, on many levels of their lives, and to many things. They do the things they do for the satisfaction of knowing that in some small way they helped, changed a life, a situation, or mindset for the better, and for them that is all they need to be filled up inside.

Then you have what I call the “surfer” they ride the tide in and out on a whim, they will try to take credit for doing a bang up job! When actually it’s others that have paved the way. They will however do very “nice” things for others in trying to gain that pat on the back, or the praise they crave from others ie; “Boy that June is sure a nice woman she picked up so and so’s kids from school, or went over to Mrs. X’s house and got that fax machine of hers going, she does these things all the time for people.”

But what did “June” really do? Everything done by these types is not altruistic, the things they do accomplish, well, there is nothing tangible or physical. They will help someone on an already existing project, or do minor things,  just enough to get that attention. Note that they never take on the initiative to start something on their own because they can’t.

They are also absolutely incapable of completing a task. What these types don’t realise is that they can be the albatross around a real foundation or an individuals neck, in the end they cause delays and issues that ultimately have to be repaired and adjusted. What they don’t realise is that if you have no commitment, no real interest in something why bother? Why waste someone’s time and energy?  They have to stroke their own ego, others can’t fill them up inside, only they can do that.

I know people on both sides of this spectrum, do you? If you think about it you will be able to pick them out, in fact you are one, I am one, we are all one or the other I’m sure.

“There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.”

– Ken Blanchard-

Well, no matter which one you or I tend to be, one thing is clear, the world and all its problems and all the solutions will still keep turning, still keep rearing its ugly head, and still keep getting solved, and it’s all because of people like this, people like us!

This could make an interesting Social Experiment.

Have a great day!
